I’m on my own again.
I’m leaving today. Traveling alone has its perks. I’m more mobile, I have less baggage, and I can actually catch up on my reading lag on those extra hours of waiting. But the concept of being A-L-O-N-E on this trip does kind of makes me sad. I’m simply not used to it anymore. 🙁
This also happens to be my first solo flight to any Asian country for the first time in YEARS. Nope, I’ve never been to China. The last time I was ever on a plane bound for an Asian country was when I first flew to Japan in 1996!
But…duty calls, and I have to make this trip.
On the bright side, I’m pretty sure that China is worth seeing, and the exposure I’m bound to have there would be worth all the time and effort. So definitely I’m going on an adventure! It’s just a four-hour journey, and the time difference is a measly one hour (just like the Philippines).
Do keep me company on this trip. I’ll be “twittering” as I go, so you can follow me. The HTML badge below is on my sidebar as well. 🙂 It will be oh-so fun!
Of course, I hope to blog from a different world, different time zone. I’m crossing my fingers. For now, excuse me while I go prepare my stuff. 🙂
Traveling ALONE. Hehehe. This used to be my dream when I was traveling with my folks (big family kami) around asia and europe, especially on a tour group– it was kinda horrible to keep waiting for everyone to settle down.
I do go to places alone on weekends to get away from the stress of normal life. Yes, there’s always a sense of adventure there… like I can actually change my identity! (Great.) But what the heck? It’s still better when you’ve got someone with you to share nice experiences with.
Good luck!
i love travelling tho im not particularly fond of travelling alone… but China should be great! inggit ako!
ni hao ma?
enjoy the trip..
Have a great trip! Sana maka-Great Wall ka! 🙂
Enjoy the trip to China. Hopefully there will be enough interesting things for you to do so you can savor your journey. Let us know how the trip turns out.
Frances, there are pros and cons when it comes to traveling alone, but given a choice, I would rather travel with my family. Despite the difficulties. Wow, I miss them already. And I just left yesterday. 🙂
Good thing that you were able to travel with your family too – it’s true that the best part of the journey is having someone to share your experience with. 🙂
Herb, you should definitely visit China when you get the chance. Nakakatuwa ang contrast between China and Japan, even if they’re close neighbors.
The Olympics next year would be a good opportunity! 🙂
Thanks Dimaks! 🙂 I don’t know any Chinese words except for “ni hao” but I’ve been mistaken for Chinese several times over since I got here. Hayy…
Thanks Gypsy!
What Great Wall? 😉
Thanks Angel. There are really a lot of things to keep me occupied, if only to keep me from missing my family so much. Definitely, you’ll be hearing more about this trip in upcoming posts.
Thanks for dropping by. It’s always great to hear from “new” visitors to this site. 🙂
Enjoy your time A-L-O-N-E Kathy. I call it my “Me” time. Although you’ll be working and thinking of Aya all the time, iim sure you’ll have lots of great stories to tell us later.
Hmmm when we went to China we really had a hard time conversing with the locals..they don’t even know what “water” is so we ended up ordering Coke but still they don’t know what Coke is…hehehe oh well..parang bukid kasi yung pinuntahan namin…hindi sa city proper 🙂
have a blast there Kat even though mag isa ka lang 🙂
hi kathy. hope you’re enjoying your stay in china. been there before, bought so much tea (good for the skin daw)in red cans. then, we were offered all sorts of herbal meds from the snake’s blood naman. na-sales talk ako, eh di i bought. years after, these meds are still in the cabinet. natakot akong inumin. di ko maintindihan yung labels…he he. i bough jade stones pa pala. pero yung bracelet, namuti kagad (sabi gold daw). they also have restos na super sarap ng food. btw, just drink the bottled water na you’re familiar with….enjoy. and take care.
I like travelling alone .. if its only a few days … up to a week. I like the opportunity to spend time with myself and enjoy the company.
It’s my ME time indeed. This is one of those days when I only have myself to take care of. 🙂 Who says moms need no pampering?
Verns, that was a rather funny anecdote. Fortunately for me, I had someone looking after me during my stay in Beijing. Kaya medyo malakas loob ko. 😉
Whoa, snake’s blood?!! Nakakatakot nga inumin yun. I saw several stalls selling jade stones, but someone told me they were not of good quality. Oh well, I’m not much of a jewellery person anyway. I bought some souvenir shirts, though. Nakakatuwa makipag-haggle sa mga tindera. 😀
I agree. Feeling dalaga ako ngayon, Anna. 🙂 Sorry na lang kay hubby, siya ang bantay-bata ngayon. 😛
