Here I am blogging early in the morning. This is a departure from my usual habit, that of blogging either right after dinner, or late at night after everyone else is asleep. Rarely do I blog in the mornings. There just isn’t enough time in the morning. Everyone is rushing off to leave the house, myself included.
I realize, though, that blogging is taking too much of my time. It’s taking away time that I could just spend whiling away, relaxing after a hard day at work, or just spending some quality time with my daughter whom I don’t get to see during the daytime, or for at least 10 hours every working day. That’s what happens when I blog after dinner. And when I blog late at night…well, I usually end up spending more time than necessary, and I end up with puffy eyes the following day.
So like it or not, morning seems to be the best time. Blogging can be addictive, yes. But we should exercise some control and discipline on our habits. That is one of the reasons why I put “blogger” towards the last when I describe myself. Although it may be hard to realize for those of you out there who’ve only known me through my blog, offline I’ve a larger than life role as a wife, mother, and yes, researcher. It’s hard enough to juggle those roles. And when deadlines approach, I find myself excusing from blogging altogether.
Don’t get me wrong. I love blogging. It just takes too much time. If only there was a way to blog our thoughts without having to sit here in front of the computer. If only there was a way to bloghop without leaving the confines of my bed…or toilet. lol
So what about you? What are your blogging habits? Do you blog early in the morning or late at night? How do you determine what time is best for you?
I only blog about once a week and it’s usually late at night. If I come up with an idea during the day, I just write a draft of it and work on it later. I also have no time to blog during the daytime so I only blog when I have free time, usually nights.
I find myself spending a lot of time than I should in front of the pc, if not blogging, doing some bloghopping, or just tweaking, tweaking ,tweaking with my blog 😉 Not good I know. I wish I had the willpower to manage my time better and find time to do other stuff in the house, or read books, or review, or maybe finish that bear that I started a few months ago.
Initially, I blogged edgewise … lunch time … after six … when i get bored with office work. Then at home when all is quiet … after 10.
Now, though I hate to admit it, it has become a central activity — the first thing i do when i wake and the last thing before bed.
I should moderate it .. until I retire. I have become less of my former self perhaps .. though happier?!
Ay naku. Ewan!
I hope I can be like you … in control .. eh scientist kasi eh. 🙂
hola! well, i´ve just started blogging. after reading the news i check your blog and herbie´s. i do hope i can post regularly though. blogging seems a lot of fun. ciao! hugs to aya…
ha? what blogging? LOL
it has become part and parcel of my family activities, but we try to blog when we have the time for ourselves. i do not blog when the kids are around, but if they are doing their own thingey, i blog in between. oh, why am i explaining myself? i admit, i blog as much as i want!
i unwind right in front of my computer by visiting blogs and leaving comments. then i cook early dinner, then walk with my girls along the lake, blog a little, exercise, then blog some more. pero kanina, my daughter was complaining that i was addicted to computer and that i should do something else. hehehe.
Looks like you’re very disciplined when it comes to your blogging habits. 🙂 How ever do you manage to resist blogging impromptu when a really great idea inspires you? I wish I could do what you do, like write a draft and then work on it later. When I start an entry, I couldn’t stop working on it until I publish it.
Time management is also an ongoing difficulty for me. But I guess, it would help to start from “small” things, like following a rough schedule for blogging, limiting bloghopping to a few sites at a time. Easier said than done, but hey, it wouldn’t hurt to try! 🙂
It is obvious that you’re very passionate about blogging! It is great to know that it has made you happier – as I’m sure that you’ve made a lot of people happier because of your blogging. 🙂
I can’t really say that I’m 100% in control, but if ever I want to succeed in my multitasking activities, I need to discipline myself and manage my time more efficiently.
A word of warning, Karmi: blogging can be addictive! LOL
Looking forward to reading more of your posts. 🙂
Wow! I do envy you, because you can and you do blog for as much as you want. But you’re a great writer, and you have such great ideas in your blog, so in the end you are doing all of us in blogosphere a favor by doing what you do! 🙂
Belle, your routine sounds balanced enough – you even have time for a walk along the lake! That is so lovely.
Wouldn’t it be nice if we could do physical exercise and blog at the same time? 🙂
